Under the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act (AMMA), qualified patients, registered with the Arizona Department of Health Services, may use and possess a limited amount of marijuana. To qualify, you must be diagnosed and certified by a doctor and issued a Registry ID Card.
Limitations of Medical Marijuana
Even if you are a qualified patient, there are limitations. You have to have a current card with you and you can’t possess more than allowable amount of marijuana. A qualified patient is limited to 2.5 ounces of marijuana and up to 12 plants. So, even Medical Marijuana card holders can face prosecution if they use marijuana outside the card’s limitations. Additionally, it does not provide a full defense to a Marijuana DUI.
